Mattress Materials, compared honestly for Canadian sleepers.

Memory foam, latex, hybrid, pocket coil, innerspring, gel-infused, cooling, organic. Marketing language has gotten loud. The actual differences come down to feel, temperature, support, lifespan, and price. We sell every material at our Brantford showroom and this is the curated comparison.

Memory foam or latex: which sleeps cooler?
Latex sleeps cooler. Open-cell latex breathes naturally and doesn't trap heat the way memory foam does. Gel-infused memory foam helps but doesn't match latex for cooling. If you sleep hot, latex or a hybrid with a latex comfort layer is the better pick.
How long does each mattress material last?
Latex: 15-20 years (longest-lasting). Hybrid: 8-12 years. Pocket coil: 8-10 years. Memory foam: 7-10 years (less for budget foam). Innerspring (single coil unit): 7-9 years. Quality of materials matters more than the type.
Is memory foam bad for your back?
It depends on the foam density and your weight. Lighter sleepers may find dense memory foam too firm. Heavier sleepers may sink too far in soft memory foam, causing spine misalignment. A 2015 study in Sleep Health (Radwan et al.) found mattress support quality significantly affects sleep quality and back pain. Match firmness to your weight and sleep position.
What is Octaspring?
Octaspring is Dormeo's branded foam coil technology — foam shaped like coils to mimic pocket coils without metal. It's a foam mattress with extra airflow. We don't carry Dormeo at Mattress Miracle; if you want similar performance with better build, our pocket coil or hybrid mattresses are the Canadian-made alternatives.
Are organic and natural mattresses worth it?
Yes, if you have chemical sensitivities, kids in the house, or want the longest-lasting mattress. Look for GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard) or GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certifications. Natural latex with organic cotton is the gold standard but doubles or triples the price.
Do you offer free delivery on every mattress material?
Yes. Free local delivery on all mattress orders within Brantford, Paris, St. George, Ayr, and Cambridge. We ship Canada-wide on most mattresses through specialty carriers.
