Sleep Health & Science, backed by research, not by hype.

Insomnia, sleep apnea, restless legs, back pain, circadian rhythm. Sleep is medical territory and a mattress retailer should know its limits. We cite peer-reviewed sources and link to Health Canada and the Canadian Sleep Society for clinical questions. Where a mattress, pillow, or bedding choice actually helps, we explain why.

Can a new mattress really help with back pain?
Yes, but only if the mattress is the cause. A 2015 study in Sleep Health (Radwan et al.) found mattress support quality significantly affects sleep quality and reported back pain. If you wake stiff and the pain eases after walking, the mattress is suspect. If pain is constant regardless of bed, see a physician — it's not a mattress problem.
How does an adjustable bed help with sleep apnea?
Elevating the head of the bed reduces airway collapse for some patients. Souza et al. (2017, Sleep & Breathing, PMID 28647854) found 7.5-degree head-of-bed elevation reduced apnea events by about 31% in OSA patients. It's not a replacement for CPAP — talk to a sleep specialist. The Canadian Sleep Society (css-scs.ca) has Canadian-specific guidance.
What are the best pillows for neck pain?
Contoured cervical pillows. Persson and Moritz (1998) found cervical-roll pillows significantly reduced neck pain compared to flat pillows. Gordon et al. (2009) extended this to side sleepers specifically. Try a cervical pillow at our Brantford showroom before buying.
Do weighted blankets help insomnia?
Some evidence supports them. Ekholm et al. (2020) found weighted chain blankets (6-8 kg) significantly improved insomnia severity over 4 weeks in psychiatric patients. Pick a weight around 10% of body weight. They aren't a clinical insomnia treatment — pair with sleep hygiene basics.
What's the optimal bedroom temperature for sleep?
Caddick et al. (2018) reviewed bedroom environment research: optimal temperature is 17-22°C (62-72°F) with 40-60% humidity, complete darkness, and noise under 35 dB. Canadian winters often have bedrooms too warm; Canadian summers without AC often too hot. Cooling sheets and a bedroom fan help.
When should I see a doctor about my sleep?
If you snore loudly, gasp awake, fall asleep during the day, or struggle to sleep more than 3 nights a week for over a month, see your family doctor or a sleep clinic. Mattress and pillow choices help with pain and mild insomnia, not clinical sleep disorders. The Canadian Sleep Society at css-scs.ca lists certified Canadian sleep clinics.
