Quick Answer: A bedroom furniture set in Ontario typically includes a bed frame, dresser, mirror, and one nightstand, priced from $600 for a basic set to $4,200+ for solid wood. Buying a set saves 15-25% over individual pieces, but you trade customization for savings. Mattresses are never included. Ontario buyers have options from chains, independents, and Canadian manufacturers.

What Is Actually in a Bedroom Furniture Set
The first thing to understand about bedroom furniture sets is that the term "set" means different things at different stores. There is no industry standard for what a bedroom set includes, and the piece count in the set name does not always match what you would expect.
Here is what the most common configurations look like:
3-piece set: Bed frame (or headboard and footboard with rails), dresser, and mirror. This is the minimum that qualifies as a "set" at most Ontario retailers. One nightstand is sometimes included, sometimes an add-on.
4-piece set: Bed frame, dresser, mirror, and one nightstand. This is the most commonly advertised configuration in Ontario.
5-piece set: Bed frame, dresser, mirror, and two nightstands. Having matching nightstands on both sides of the bed is the preferred look for most buyers, which is why the 5-piece is the most popular when budget allows.
6-piece set and above: Adds a chest of drawers (taller and narrower than a dresser), an armoire, or a bench. These are premium configurations.
What is never included: The mattress. The box spring or foundation. Bedding (sheets, duvet, pillows). Lamps or lighting. A rug. These are always separate purchases, and any retailer who bundles them is pricing them separately and calling it a "package deal."
Brad, Owner since 1987: "The most common surprise is that the mattress is separate. People see a bedroom set advertised for $899 and assume the mattress is included. It is not. A bedroom set is furniture only. Plan your budget to include both the set and the mattress, because that is the real cost of furnishing a bedroom."

Set vs Separate Pieces: The Real Math
This is the question every Ontario furniture buyer faces: do you save money buying a matched set, or are you better off picking individual pieces from different collections or even different stores?
The short answer is that sets save money. The longer answer is that sets come with trade-offs.
The Savings Argument for Sets
A matched bedroom set is typically 15-25% less expensive than buying equivalent individual pieces from the same collection. Manufacturers price sets as loss leaders to move complete rooms. The set discount is built into their wholesale model, which means retailers pass on real savings, not just marketing discounts.
For example, our Queen Charlotte Bedroom Set at $1,073.49 includes a platform bed, dresser, mirror, and two nightstands. Buying those five pieces individually from the same IFDC Charlotte collection would cost roughly $1,350 to $1,400. The set saves about $300.
The Argument for Buying Separately
Buying individually makes sense when:
- You already own some pieces. If your dresser is fine but you need a new bed frame and nightstands, there is no reason to buy a full set.
- You want to mix styles. A modern platform bed with mid-century nightstands and a traditional dresser can look intentional and curated. Sets, by design, match everything, which can feel predictable.
- You want to upgrade one piece. Maybe you want a solid maple bed frame from Lakewood but the rest of the room can be something less expensive. Mixing price points is a smart strategy.
- You want to spread the cost. Buying a bedroom one piece at a time over several months is easier on cash flow than one large set purchase.
The Compromise
Buy the bed frame from the collection you love (this is the centrepiece of the room), then choose case goods (dresser, nightstands) that coordinate without necessarily matching exactly. As long as the finish and scale are compatible, the room will look cohesive without the "showroom floor" feel of a perfectly matched set.
Material Guide: What to Look For and What to Avoid
Bedroom furniture materials in Ontario fall into four categories. Understanding the differences saves you from buying something that looks good in the store and falls apart in three years.
Solid Wood
The gold standard. Solid wood furniture is made from planks of real timber: maple, oak, pine, cherry, walnut, or birch. It is heavy, durable, and repairable. A scratch on solid wood can be sanded and refinished. A broken joint can be re-glued. Solid wood bedroom furniture from the 1960s and 1970s is still in active use in Canadian homes because the material lasts generations.
A study published in the Journal of Cleaner Production (2019) found that solid wood furniture has a significantly longer usable lifespan than engineered wood alternatives, with solid wood pieces lasting an average of 25 to 50 years compared to 5 to 15 years for particle board and MDF (Gonzalez-Garcia et al., Journal of Cleaner Production, 2019).
The trade-off is price. Solid wood bedroom sets in Ontario start around $1,500 and can exceed $5,000 for hardwoods like maple and walnut. Our Lakewood solid wood collection offers Canadian-made maple, oak, and pine sets, which we cover in detail below.
Engineered Wood (MDF, Particle Board, HDF)
Most bedroom furniture sold in Ontario under $1,500 uses some form of engineered wood. MDF (medium-density fibreboard) is the best of the engineered options: it is dense, smooth, and takes paint and laminate finishes well. Particle board is cheaper and less durable. HDF (high-density fibreboard) falls between the two.
The problem with engineered wood is moisture. In Canadian homes where humidity fluctuates seasonally, MDF and particle board can swell, warp, and delaminate over time. A dresser drawer that swelled shut during a humid July and never closed properly again is a familiar frustration. Particle board is also difficult to repair: once a screw hole strips or a corner chips, the damage is usually permanent.
That said, well-made MDF furniture with quality laminate or veneer finishes can last 10 to 15 years with proper care. Not every bedroom needs heirloom furniture, and MDF at a fair price is a reasonable choice for guest rooms, children's rooms, and rental properties.
Wood Veneer
Veneer furniture uses thin slices of real wood adhered to an engineered wood core. Good veneer can be indistinguishable from solid wood visually, and it resists warping better than solid wood because the core is dimensionally stable. The trade-off is that veneer cannot be sanded and refinished like solid wood, so deep scratches expose the core material.
Our Lakewood Style 7200 set ($2,397) uses maple veneer on an engineered core, which gives you the maple grain and appearance at a lower price than solid maple.
Metal
Metal bed frames are durable, lightweight, and typically less expensive than wood. Metal dressers and nightstands are less common but exist in industrial and modern designs. Metal does not warp, swell, or attract insects, which makes it practical for basements and cottages. The aesthetic is limited, though, and metal furniture tends to feel less warm and inviting than wood.
Ontario Bedroom Set Prices by Tier
| Tier | Price Range (4-5 piece queen) | Material | Expected Lifespan | Where to Find |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Budget | $500-$1,200 | Particle board, laminate, some MDF | 3-7 years | IKEA, Wayfair, The Brick (entry line) |
| Mid-range | $1,200-$2,500 | MDF, veneer, some solid wood accents | 8-15 years | Leon's, The Brick, independents |
| Premium | $2,500-$4,000 | Solid wood, quality veneer, hardwoods | 20-50+ years | Independents, specialty furniture stores |
| Luxury | $4,000+ | Solid hardwood, custom finishes, Canadian-made | Generational | Custom workshops, specialty retailers |
The sweet spot for most Ontario families is the $1,200 to $2,500 range. You get furniture that is well-constructed, looks good, and lasts long enough to justify the investment. Below $1,000, expect to replace pieces within 5 to 7 years as the engineered wood breaks down. Above $3,000, you are paying for solid wood that will genuinely last decades, which changes the cost per year equation significantly.
Charlotte, IFDC, and Lakewood: What We Carry
At Mattress Miracle, we carry three bedroom furniture lines that cover the budget, mid-range, and premium tiers. Each serves a different buyer and a different need.
Charlotte Bedroom Sets (Budget to Mid-Range)
The Charlotte collection by IFDC is our most affordable complete bedroom option. These sets use engineered wood with laminate finishes in contemporary styles that work in most Ontario homes.
| Set | Size | Includes | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Charlotte Double Set | Double | Platform bed, dresser, mirror, nightstand | $600.00 |
| Charlotte Driftwood Gray | Queen | Platform bed, dresser, mirror, two nightstands | $860.00 |
| Charlotte Queen Set | Queen | Platform bed, dresser, mirror, two nightstands | $1,073.49 |
| Charlotte King Set | King | Platform bed, dresser, mirror, two nightstands | $1,073.49 |
The Charlotte sets are a strong choice for first apartments, guest bedrooms, and anyone who wants a coordinated look without a large investment. The platform bed design means no box spring is needed, which saves another $130 to $350.
IFDC Modern Furniture (Mid-Range)
Beyond the Charlotte collection, IFDC Modern Furniture offers individual platform beds, upholstered bed frames, and accent pieces. IFDC specializes in contemporary designs with clean lines and neutral finishes. Individual IFDC bed frames range from $170 for a basic metal platform to $1,700 for upholstered statement pieces. You can pair an IFDC bed frame with nightstands and dressers from other collections for a customized look.
Lakewood Solid Wood (Premium)
The Lakewood collection is what sets Mattress Miracle apart from most Ontario mattress retailers. These are solid wood bedroom sets made in Canada from real maple, oak, and pine. Not veneer over MDF. Not "wood-look laminate." Actual hardwood that can be sanded, refinished, and passed down.
| Set | Wood | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Lakewood Style 505 (Storage) | Solid Pine | $1,497 |
| Lakewood Contempo | Solid Pine | $1,797 |
| Lakewood Style 4100 | Solid Pine | $1,797 |
| Lakewood Style 7200 | Maple Veneer | $2,397 |
| Lakewood 3700/3800/3900/Estella | Solid Maple | $2,697 |
| Lakewood Clover | Solid Pine | $2,997 |
| Lakewood 4000/Montana/7100 | Solid Wood | $3,297 |
| Lakewood Sophia | Solid Wood | $3,597 |
| Lakewood Congo/Rose | Solid Wood | $4,197 |
Lakewood is hard to find in Brantford. Most local furniture stores carry the usual chain brands, which are primarily engineered wood. The Lakewood line is one of the reasons people drive to our West Street showroom from Hamilton, Kitchener, and Cambridge: it is simply not available at most Ontario retailers.
Why We Carry Lakewood
Brad added the Lakewood line about eight years ago because customers kept asking for solid wood options that did not exist in the Brantford market. The closest solid wood bedroom furniture was in Toronto or Kitchener at specialty shops charging significantly more. Lakewood is Canadian-made, priced reasonably for solid wood, and built to last. It is the furniture equivalent of buying a mattress you will not need to replace for 20 years. The pine sets start at $1,497, which is less than what some retailers charge for engineered wood with a good veneer.
Chain vs Independent: Where to Buy in Ontario
Ontario has no shortage of bedroom furniture retailers, but the experience and value you get varies dramatically depending on where you shop.
Chain Retailers (The Brick, Leon's, IKEA)
Advantages: Large showrooms with dozens of sets on display. Frequent sales and promotions. Financing options (though terms vary). Standardized delivery services. Name recognition and buyer confidence.
Disadvantages: Most inventory is engineered wood at mid-range prices. Sales staff work on commission at some locations, which can push recommendations toward higher-margin products. Delivery can be slow during peak periods (new home builds, post-holiday sales). Limited Canadian-made options.
Best for: Budget to mid-range buyers who want to see many options in one visit.
Independent Furniture Stores
Advantages: Curated selection rather than overwhelming inventory. Often carry Canadian-made and specialty brands that chains do not stock. Staff tend to have deeper product knowledge. Delivery can be faster and more flexible. Better chance of negotiation on pricing, especially for multi-piece purchases.
Disadvantages: Smaller showrooms, so fewer sets on display. May not carry the specific brand you saw online. Hours may be less convenient than chain stores.
Best for: Buyers who know what quality level they want and value guidance over volume.
Online Retailers (Wayfair, Article, Structube)
Advantages: Largest selection by far. Easy price comparison. Customer reviews and photos. Delivery to most Ontario addresses. No sales pressure.
Disadvantages: You cannot touch, open drawers, or assess weight and build quality before buying. Returns are expensive and logistically difficult (who wants to repackage a dresser?). Assembly is on you. Quality is harder to judge from photos and descriptions.
Best for: Budget buyers who are comfortable with some risk, or buyers who have already touched the furniture in person and found it cheaper online.
Mattress Specialty Stores (Like Us)
Mattress Miracle is a mattress store that also carries bedroom furniture. This might seem unusual, but it is actually practical: the same customer buying a queen mattress often needs a bed frame, and the same customer buying a bed frame often needs nightstands and a dresser. We carry Charlotte, IFDC, and Lakewood specifically because our customers were asking for bedroom furniture to go with their new mattress.
The advantage of buying furniture from a mattress store is coordination. We can match your bed frame to your mattress height, ensure the foundation is compatible, and deliver everything together on one truck. That eliminates the common problem of buying a bed frame from one store and a mattress from another, only to discover they do not work well together.
Delivery and Assembly in Ontario
Bedroom furniture delivery in Ontario varies more than most people expect. Here is what each option actually means, because the terms are used inconsistently across the industry.
Curbside delivery: The truck pulls up, the driver puts the boxes at the end of your driveway or at the entrance of your building, and leaves. You carry everything inside, upstairs, and assemble it yourself. This is the default "free delivery" at most online retailers and some chains.
Threshold delivery: The driver brings the boxes to your front door (or to the lobby of your apartment building) but does not enter your home. Slightly better than curbside, but you are still carrying and assembling.
White glove delivery: This is what Mattress Miracle offers. The delivery team brings everything into your home, carries it to the room of your choice, assembles the furniture, positions it, removes all packaging, and takes the packaging with them. For bedroom sets, this is the difference between a weekend of frustration with an Allen key and a fully set-up bedroom in 30 minutes.
White glove delivery matters especially for:
- Large dressers. A solid wood dresser can weigh 50 to 80 kilograms. Carrying that up a flight of stairs is a two-person job minimum.
- Bed frames. Assembly involves attaching rails, headboard, footboard, and slats. Getting the alignment right on the first try requires experience.
- Second-floor bedrooms. Most Ontario homes have bedrooms upstairs. Furniture boxes are large, heavy, and awkward on narrow staircases.
We deliver to Brantford and surrounding areas, with extended delivery to Hamilton, Burlington, Mississauga, Toronto, Kitchener, Waterloo, Guelph, Cambridge, St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, London, Barrie, and Oshawa. Our delivery team uses shoe covers and floor protection, because delivering a beautiful new bedroom set and leaving scuff marks on the hardwood defeats the purpose.
Quality Checklist: What to Inspect Before You Buy
Whether you buy from us or from anyone else in Ontario, check these before committing:
Drawers: Pull them out fully. Do they slide smoothly? Do they have stops so they do not fall out? Are the joints dovetailed (interlocking cuts at corners) or just stapled? Dovetail joints are a sign of quality construction.
Back panels: Pull the dresser away from the wall. Is the back a thin piece of cardboard stapled on, or a solid panel screwed in place? The back panel affects structural rigidity over time.
Weight: Lift a corner of the dresser. Heavy furniture is almost always better furniture. The weight comes from solid wood and thicker panels, which mean durability.
Finish: Run your hand over the surface. Is it smooth and consistent? Are there rough spots, bubbles, or visible seams in the laminate? Look at the edges, where cheap furniture tends to show its shortcuts.
Hardware: Open and close drawers ten times. Do the handles feel solid or flimsy? Is the soft-close mechanism smooth? Hardware is where manufacturers cut corners first.

What is included in a bedroom furniture set?
A standard bedroom furniture set typically includes a bed frame (or headboard and footboard), a dresser, a mirror, and one nightstand. Some sets include two nightstands or add a chest of drawers. Mattresses, bedding, and accessories are almost never included and must be purchased separately.
Is it cheaper to buy a bedroom set or individual pieces?
Buying a matched set is typically 15-25% less expensive than purchasing equivalent pieces individually. However, buying pieces separately gives you more flexibility to mix styles, upgrade individual items, and spread the cost over time. If budget is the priority, sets offer better value. If customization matters more, buy individually.
How much does a bedroom furniture set cost in Ontario?
Ontario bedroom set prices range from about $600 for a basic 3-piece set to $5,000 or more for solid wood or premium collections. A mid-range 4-piece queen set typically costs $1,500 to $3,000. Solid wood sets from Canadian manufacturers start around $1,500 and can reach $4,200 or more for hardwoods like maple.
Do bedroom furniture sets include a mattress?
No. Bedroom furniture sets include the bed frame and case goods (dresser, nightstands, mirror, chest) but not the mattress, box spring, or bedding. This is standard across the industry in Canada. Some retailers offer package deals where you buy a bedroom set and mattress together at a discount, but these are separate products bundled for convenience.
Where can I buy bedroom furniture sets in Ontario?
Ontario options include chain retailers (The Brick, Leon's, IKEA), independent furniture stores, mattress specialty stores that carry furniture (like Mattress Miracle in Brantford), and online retailers (Wayfair, Article). Independent stores often carry Canadian-made lines that chains do not stock, and they can coordinate delivery with mattress purchases.
What comes in a king bedroom furniture set in Ontario?
A king bedroom furniture set in Ontario typically includes a king-size bed frame (76 by 80 inches), a dresser, a mirror, and one or two nightstands. Five-piece and six-piece king sets add a chest of drawers or a second nightstand. King sets cost more than queen sets because the bed frame is larger, but the dresser, nightstands, and mirror are the same size. In Ontario, king bedroom sets run from about $900 for a basic 3-piece to $5,500 or more for solid hardwood. At Mattress Miracle in Brantford, we carry king bed frames as part of our bedroom furniture collections. Call (519) 770-0001 to ask about current inventory.
What is included in a twin bedroom furniture set?
A twin bedroom furniture set includes a twin-size bed frame (38 by 75 inches), a dresser with mirror, and usually one nightstand. Twin sets are designed for children's rooms, guest rooms, or compact spaces. Pricing in Ontario runs from $400 to $2,000 depending on materials and piece count. Wood-finish twin sets with a bunk configuration are also available for siblings sharing a room. Bunk beds are sold separately from standard bedroom sets. Twin bedroom furniture sets are the most affordable bedroom set category because the bed frame is the smallest standard size.
Can I buy a full-size bedroom furniture set in Ontario?
Yes. A full-size bedroom furniture set includes a full (double) bed frame (54 by 75 inches), dresser, mirror, and nightstand. Full sets are less common than queen or twin at most Ontario retailers, but specialty furniture stores and custom furniture makers still offer them. A full bedroom set is a good option when a twin is too small but a queen would overwhelm the room. Full sets in Ontario typically cost $600 to $2,500 for standard materials. If you are buying a full-size set, confirm that bedding in full/double size is readily available, since queen bedding is more widely produced and selection is better.
