Do I need a box spring with a platform bed?
No. Platform beds have a built-in slatted or solid base that supports the mattress directly. Box springs were designed for traditional metal frames with 6+ inch rail spacing. With a platform bed, the box spring would just raise the bed unnecessarily.
What's the difference between a platform bed and a bed frame?
A traditional bed frame is a metal or wood structure that holds a box spring + mattress. A platform bed integrates the support surface (slats or solid panel) into the frame itself. Platform = base + frame in one.
Will my mattress work on a platform bed?
Most modern mattresses (foam, latex, hybrid) work on platform beds with slats spaced 2-3 inches apart. Pure innerspring may need a bunkie board for support. Always check the mattress warranty — some require specific foundation types.
