Wood frames (maple, oak, pine) last 20+ years if the joinery is solid. Look for 6-piece construction - that's how Canadian manufacturers build them. Metal frames rust in basements but work fine in climate-controlled bedrooms. Upholstered frames need Scotchgard if you have kids or pets.

Platform beds don't need box springs - they save you $350-$550. Storage frames with hydraulic lift hold seasonal bedding and winter clothes. We measure 12x18x60 inches of space under a queen lift bed. Drawer frames give you 4-8 drawers depending on size.
