Twin vs twin XL sheets: which size fits your bed?
Twin sheets and twin XL sheets differ in length only. The Sleep Foundation lists a twin mattress at 38 by 75 inches and a twin XL at 38 by 80. That makes the XL 5 inches longer on the same width. A twin fitted sheet won't stretch over those extra 5 inches. Put a twin XL sheet on a regular twin and you get 5 inches of slack at the foot. The Sleep Foundation suggests a twin for children, teens and adults under 6 feet tall, and a twin XL for teens and adults over 6 feet. Anyone taller than 6 feet, it says, should look for a bed at least 80 inches long. If a teenager has outgrown a standard twin, the sheets are the cheap part of the fix. Twin XL sheets for university residence beds
Residence bed sizes vary by building, so check the list your residence sends before you buy sheets. Western University's 2026-27 residence comparison lists twin XL beds in 8 of its 12 buildings. Western gives its twin XL mattress as 80 inches long by 36 inches wide. That is 2 inches narrower than the Sleep Foundation's twin XL, which a fitted sheet takes up without trouble. Length is the number that matters.
Wilfrid Laurier University's residence buildings page shows how much this varies. For its Waterloo apartments, it says the mattress needs single, twin, double or full sheets depending on the building, and one listing says twin sheets "unless a long bed is present." The four Bamboo Luxe sets are microfiber sheets. The 4880 and 6800 labels say 100% microfiber, and the 7300 and 9800 listings describe premium microfiber. Bamboo Luxe is the series name, and none of the four labels lists bamboo. The 4880 and 6800 come in solid colours, and the 7300 and 9800 are the patterned ones. The Windsor microfiber sheet set, at $39.95, is the plainest of them.
The Versaille is the cotton set. Highland Feather lists it as 100% combed long-staple cotton at 300 thread count, with a 17-inch drop on the fitted sheet. The maker lists the set as OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class 1 certified. The twin comes with one pillowcase, and the Versaille 300 thread count cotton sheet set comes in five colours.

Microfiber, cotton or fleece: choosing twin sheets
Choosing twin sheets comes down to budget, how warm the room runs and how often the bed gets washed. Microfiber is the low-cost choice, and five of our nine twin products use it. Cotton costs more here: the Versaille is $112 in twin.
The Sleep Foundation advises looking for at least 200 thread count in cotton sheets, and puts high-quality Egyptian cotton at 300 to 400. The Versaille's 300 sits inside that range. Thread count doesn't apply to microfiber, which the Sleep Foundation rates by weight instead, suggesting 90 to 120 grams per square metre (GSM). Will a twin fitted sheet stay on your mattress?
A twin fitted sheet stays on when its pocket is deeper than everything on the bed. Measure the mattress, then add any topper and the mattress protector. The Sleep Foundation puts standard pockets at up to 14 inches and extra-deep pockets at 16 to 24 inches.
The Bamboo Luxe 4880 and 6800 sets have 17-inch pockets, and the Versaille fitted sheet has a 17-inch drop. The Bamboo Cotton set fits mattresses up to about 15 inches, its listing says. A mattress on a twin over twin bunk bed takes the same twin sheets. Check the depth there too. A thin bunk mattress in a 17-inch pocket leaves loose fabric that bunches up, and nobody wants to remake a top bunk at bedtime.
