Understanding Foam Density
Not all yellow foam is the same.
Density (lbs/cu ft): Determines durability.
Compression (ILD): Determines firmness.
The "Blue" Foam (High Density): Very firm. Best for dining chairs, boat seats, and heavy-use sofa cushions. It won't bottom out.
The "White" Foam (Medium Density): Softer. Best for mattress toppers, headboards, and guest sleeping pads.
Memory Foam: Best as a top layer. Don't use 4 inches of memory foam for a seat cushion; you will sink right through it.
The Cutting Process
Can I cut it myself?
Yes, an electric turkey carving knife works surprisingly well.
Should I?
If you want straight, square edges, let us do it. Our industrial saws create a clean 90-degree edge that ensures your covers fit tightly without wrinkling.
Do You Need a Cover?
Foam oxidizes (turns yellow and crumbles) when exposed to air and UV light over years.
Always cover your foam.
If you are handy, sew a custom cover. If not, simply wrapping the foam in Dacron batting (a fluffy polyester layer) before stuffing it into a cushion cover fills out the corners and protects the foam from friction.

High-density foam (2.0 lb+) lasts 10-15 years. Low density (1.0 lb) might only last 2-3 years. You get what you pay for.
Is it expensive?
It is priced by the board foot. A sofa cushion replacement might cost $50-$80, which is much cheaper than a $1,500 new sofa.
Can you cut curves?
Yes, we can cut rounded corners (radius) for RV mattresses or boat v-berths. Bringing a paper template is helpful.
Does new foam smell?
It has a slight manufacturing scent initially. Let it air out for 24 hours before putting the cover on.
