A $9 minimum disposal fee (effective March 1, 2026) plus a $10 per-unit mattress and box spring surcharge. Open Tuesday to Friday 8am to 5pm, Saturdays and holidays 8am to 4pm. Closed Sundays, Mondays, Christmas, and New Year's Day. Residential drop-off is restricted to Grimsby, Lincoln, Pelham, and West Lincoln residents.
• Private junk-removal services (paid). Several Grimsby and St. Catharines-based junk haulers will pick up a mattress on short notice, typically $80 to $150 per unit. Examples include Niagara Junk Removal and Waste Management (WM) on-call service.

• Who is eligible: single-family detached, semi-detached, townhomes, and apartment buildings with two to six units. Larger apartment buildings and condo corporations handle their own waste contracts.
• What counts as a large item: mattresses, box springs, furniture, appliances (with refrigerant-removal restrictions on fridges and freezers), and similar bulky items. Limit four items per pickup.
• How to book: Call Green for Life directly at 1-855-971-4550, or use the Niagara Region CityView online portal, at least two working days before your scheduled garbage day.
• How to set out: The mattress goes to the curb the night before or by 7am on the morning of pickup. Wrapping in a plastic mattress disposal bag is encouraged for bedbug containment but is not strictly required by the Region (Brantford's program requires it; Niagara's does not, although the contractor crews appreciate it).

The two working days of advance notice is the catch. If your old mattress needs to be gone by Saturday and you are calling on Thursday morning, you may miss the next pickup window and need a backup plan. That is when the landfill option or a private hauler becomes useful.

Niagara Road 12 Landfill: When the Curbside Will Not Do

The Niagara Road 12 Waste Management Facility at 7015 Concession Road 7 in West Lincoln is the closest landfill drop-off option for Grimsby residents. It is genuinely close, about 20 minutes from central Grimsby via Mountain Road and Concession 6, and it is the right choice for any of these scenarios:

• You missed the curbside booking window and need the mattress gone today
• You have more than four large items (the curbside cap) to dispose of in one go
• You are managing an estate, a tenant turnover, or a renovation and timing matters
• The mattress is too damaged, soiled, or bedbug-affected to put on the curb in a normal residential pickup

The 2026 fee structure: a $9 minimum disposal fee (this increased from $7 effective March 1, 2026) plus a $10 per-unit surcharge specifically on mattresses and box springs. A single mattress costs $19. A mattress plus a box spring costs $29. Two mattresses (no box springs) costs $29. The Region added the $10 surcharge in February 2024 to recover the cost of segregating mattresses for materials recovery; that surcharge stayed in place into the 2026 fee update.

Cash, Interac, Visa, and Mastercard are all accepted at the scale house. Bring proof of Grimsby residency (a driver's licence with current Grimsby address is sufficient) because residential drop-off is restricted to Grimsby, Lincoln, Pelham, and West Lincoln.

Why Charities Will Not Take Your Old Mattress

• Diabetes Canada Declutter Program (formerly Clothesline) picks up clothing, bedding (sheets, blankets, drapes), small household goods, and footwear. Mattresses are not on their pickup list.
• Local women's shelters and refugee resettlement programs in Niagara sometimes need mattresses, but almost always need new mattresses, not used. If you want to support that work, donating a new mattress to a Region-vetted program is the path; used mattresses are declined for the same bedbug and regulatory reasons.

If the mattress is in genuinely excellent condition (under a year old, no stains, no sagging, original tag intact, kept in a protector), it is worth one phone call to your local women's shelter or refugee settlement service to ask. The answer is usually still no, but the call is short.

"Free Haul-Away" at Chain Retailers: The Fine Print

When you buy a new mattress at Sleep Country, Leon's, The Brick, or Costco in the Niagara or Hamilton area, the order paperwork will mention "free haul-away of your old mattress." It is a real service. It is also more conditional than the headline suggests:

• The mattress being removed must be the one being replaced (one in, one out)
• It must be dry, free of bodily fluids, and not visibly bedbug-affected. Delivery crews can refuse haul-away on inspection
• It must be stripped of bedding and accessible (down a flight of stairs and through a narrow hallway is usually fine; up two flights of stairs with a hairpin turn is usually a problem)
• The haul-away is into the delivery truck and disposed at the chain's contracted facility, which is almost always a Region landfill (Niagara Road 12, for example)
• If you cancel or reschedule the delivery, the haul-away cancels with it

None of that is dishonest. It is just worth knowing before you assume the chain will solve the problem with no questions asked.

What Haul-Away Means at Mattress Miracle
