About 250 units are involved. The bed stands roughly 86 inches tall and 65 inches wide and folds into a cabinet that mounts to the wall.
The problem is the assembly stage. The bed frame on its own weighs 215 pounds. Until it is anchored to wall studs, there is nothing holding the upright cabinet in place, and it can tip forward onto whoever is putting it together. Ningbo Tianqi has received two injury reports so far. One consumer ended up with a laceration, a bruise, and a fractured growth plate in her finger. Another needed eight stitches to his face.
Those numbers are small, but the hazard is serious enough that CPSC classified it as an impact, crush, and laceration risk. A 215-pound cabinet falling from vertical is not a minor injury event. It is the kind of thing that can break a collarbone, concuss a child, or do much worse if the fall happens at head height.
The safety standard behind all of this. Murphy beds are covered by ASTM F2085, a voluntary consumer safety specification developed by a CPSC-accepted third-party process, and by the international ISO 10131 foldaway bed standard. Both standards exist because the failure mode is consistent across products: an improperly anchored cabinet, or a piston or latch that lets go at the wrong moment, creates a heavy falling object. Since 2022, more than 200,000 Murphy beds have been recalled in North America under similar hazard patterns.
Who Is Affected in Canada
This is a United States CPSC recall. As of this writing, Health Canada has not posted a companion notice for the FUFU&GAGA model, and the product does not appear on the Canadian recall database. - If the bed is partially assembled and not yet anchored, lay it flat on the floor with help. Do not try to stand it up alone. Two-person handling at minimum for a 215-pound piece of furniture.
- Contact Ningbo Tianqi Electronic through the contact information on the CPSC recall page to request the refund and disassembly kit.
- Follow the written instructions that come with the kit. Do not improvise with your own tools.
- Keep children and pets out of the room during disassembly.
A note on the mattress itself. The recall is for the cabinet and lift hardware, not the mattress inside.
