Restonic ComfortCare Dalton & Albany Review: Honest Thoughts from Brantford

What Is the Restonic ComfortCare?

The ComfortCare is Restonic's mid-range line. Not the entry level, not the premium Revive series. It sits in the middle, which is where most people end up spending their money, and honestly where a lot of the best value tends to be.

The Dalton and Albany are two comfort options within the same ComfortCare construction. Same coil system, same foam layers, same Euro Top design. The only meaningful difference is how soft or firm the comfort layers feel when you lie down. We carry both at Mattress Miracle, and we have helped a lot of Brantford families work out which one fits how they actually sleep.

Both mattresses are made in Canada and carry CertiPUR-US certification on the foam, which means the foam has been tested and verified to be free of harmful chemicals. That matters more than most marketing departments admit.

What Is Inside It

The ComfortCare Dalton and Albany are hybrids: pocket coils on the bottom, foam layers on top. Here is what each layer actually does.

Marvelous Middle Zoned Pocket Coils

Individually wrapped pocket coils with a reinforced centre third. The coil count scales with mattress size: 690 in a Twin, 980 in a Double, 1,222 in a Queen, 1,440 in a King. Each coil moves independently, which limits motion transfer between sleeping partners. The reinforced middle is specifically designed to support the lumbar spine, where most back sleepers carry the most weight.

TempaGel Memory Foam

Gel-infused memory foam that conforms to body shape for pressure relief at the hips and shoulders. The gel component helps move heat away from the sleep surface instead of trapping it. If you have tried memory foam before and found it sleeps warm, the gel modification addresses that directly. It will not make a hot sleeper feel like they are sleeping on ice, but it does make a noticeable difference compared to standard memory foam.

High-Density Support Foam

A durable foam layer between the coils and the comfort foam. It gives the mattress structure and helps it hold its shape over years of use. High-density foam resists body impressions better than lower-density alternatives, which is part of why the ComfortCare tends to feel consistent for longer than bargain-bin alternatives at a lower price.

SuperEdge Plus Foam Encasement

Full foam encasement around the entire perimeter. This means the edge of the mattress supports your weight the same way the centre does. You can sit on the side of the bed to put shoes on without that sliding-off sensation. For couples who share a queen or king, it also increases the usable sleep surface because neither person needs to avoid the edge.

Euro Top Design

The pillow layer is sewn flush with the mattress edge, not raised above it. This gives both the Dalton and Albany a clean, flat profile and prevents the comfort layer from shifting or bunching over time. It also gives a consistent feel across the full sleep surface, including the edges.

Dalton vs Albany: Which Comfort Level

This is where most of our in-store conversations go. The construction is identical. The difference is in the feel of the comfort layers.

The Dalton is the firm option. If you sleep on your back or stomach, the Dalton is likely the better fit. Back sleepers need enough resistance to keep the hips from sinking out of alignment with the shoulders. Stomach sleepers, who already tend to have a flatter spinal curve while they sleep, generally do better on firmer surfaces that do not let the hips drop. The Dalton provides that without feeling like you are sleeping on a floor.

The Albany is the plush option. Side sleepers compress one hip and one shoulder against the mattress all night. A firmer surface creates pressure points at those spots. The Albany's softer comfort layers allow the hip and shoulder to sink in slightly, keeping the spine horizontal rather than angled. Lighter body weights, in general, also tend to feel better on the Albany because they do not generate as much pressure to compress a firmer surface.

In our experience at the store, combination sleepers, those who switch positions through the night, often land somewhere in between. We find most of them gravitate toward the Albany because the plush feel works for side sleeping without being so soft that back sleeping becomes uncomfortable. But honestly, this is one of those decisions we encourage customers to make in person. Thirty seconds on a mattress does not tell you much. Ten minutes in your actual sleep position tells you a lot more.

The Split Comfort Option for Couples

Restonic offers the ComfortCare in a Split Comfort configuration: one side Dalton (firm), one side Albany (plush), in the same mattress. This is available in Double, Queen, and King sizes at the same price as the single-comfort versions.

This is worth knowing about if you and your partner genuinely prefer different feels. A split king with two separate adjustable bases achieves the same result and gives you individual movement control, but the ComfortCare Split Comfort does it in a single mattress with one foundation, which is simpler and less expensive. The split runs down the centre lengthwise, so each person sleeps on their own comfort zone.

Motion transfer between the two zones is managed by the individually wrapped pocket coils, so a restless partner on the firm side does not translate into movement felt on the plush side. It is not perfect isolation, but it is noticeably better than a traditional innerspring.

Who This Mattress Suits

After more than 37 years helping people find mattresses, we have a reasonably clear sense of who tends to be happy with the Restonic ComfortCare.

Where the ComfortCare is not always the first recommendation: very heavy sleepers who need extra reinforcement, or sleepers with specific orthopedic conditions who may benefit from a dedicated therapeutic mattress. For back pain with a clinical dimension, our Ortho Care Therapeutic is worth comparing. For a significant step up in materials, the Restonic Revive line with Talalay copper latex is the next tier.

Our Honest Take

The Restonic ComfortCare is a solid mattress. It is not trying to be the most exciting thing in the room. What it is trying to do is give you reliable support, reasonable cooling, good edge performance, and a Canadian-made hybrid at a price that does not require a second mortgage on a Queen.

We think the zoned coil system is genuinely useful, not just a marketing term. The reinforced middle does make a difference for lumbar support compared to uniform-coil designs we have tested at similar price points. The TempaGel works as described. The SuperEdge encasement is one of the better edge-support implementations we have seen in this price range.

The main honest caveat: if you are a very warm sleeper or a hot sleeper by nature, gel foam helps but is not a complete solution. A mattress with more breathable construction, like a latex layer or a more open coil design, may serve you better. We would rather tell you that now than have you find out six months in.

For most people shopping in the $999 to $1,899 range who want a reliable hybrid with good longevity, the ComfortCare holds up well against what else is available. The Split Comfort option for couples is a practical solution we recommend often and hear good things about.
