Its weakness has historically been Thread support, which lagged Apple and Google significantly until the SmartThings Station added a Thread border router in 2023.
For building a sleep automation routine, SmartThings' strengths align well with what matters: conditional logic based on multiple inputs, time and sensor-based triggers, and the ability to connect devices from different manufacturers through Matter. The Thread border router in the Station fills the last gap, allowing low-power sensors to operate without relying on Wi-Fi or Zigbee.
SmartThings Thread: Which Hubs Support It
Not all SmartThings hubs include Thread. This is an important clarification because the SmartThings platform spans multiple hardware generations with varying capabilities.

With a Galaxy Watch 7 or later connected to the same Samsung account as your SmartThings hub, you can create routines triggered by sleep detection events.
