Protect your new mattress
A fitted protector guards against spills, stains, and wear from the first night. Most of our customers add one at delivery time and never think about it again.
Shop mattress protectorsThe Elena is a hybrid latex-and-gel mattress from Sleep In. A natural latex comfort layer over a 1,102-coil pocket-coil base, wrapped in a bamboo-blend cover. It's one of our better latex-hybrid options for sleepers who want the responsive feel of latex without the cost of an all-natural mattress.
What the Elena Is
- Hybrid construction: natural latex over gel-infused foam, on a 1,102-coil pocket-coil support system
- Tri-zone pocket-coil layout for spinal alignment
- Bamboo-blend knit cover
- 13 inches thick
- Medium firmness (approximately 5 to 6 on a 10-point scale)
- 10-year warranty
- Made in Canada by Sleep In
What "Cooling" Actually Means in a Mattress
Let's be straight with you: a passive cooling mattress does not refrigerate your bed or lower your bedroom air temperature. Here is what it actually does and does not do:
- What helps: Cool-to-touch covers feel cool the moment you lie down. Gel, copper, and graphite infusions modestly improve heat conductivity compared to plain memory foam (which is notorious for trapping heat). Breathable covers (bamboo, Tencel) wick moisture away from skin. All of these are real but incremental benefits.
- What does not happen: The mattress does not actively cool. Once the sleep surface warms up to near body temperature, the cool-to-touch effect fades. No passive mattress gives you the feel of an air-conditioned bed.
- For actual active cooling (water-circulating covers like Eight Sleep, BedJet, or Chilipad), see our smart mattress cover article.
- The bigger lever for sleep temperature is bedroom air. Research suggests aiming for 15 to 20°C in the bedroom for most adults. See our bedroom temperature guide.
What the Elena Does Well
- Natural latex comfort layer. Latex is inherently more breathable than memory foam because of its open-cell structure. It also has a more responsive, "springy" feel that many sleepers prefer over the slow sink of memory foam.
- High coil count. 1,102 individually wrapped pocket coils provide consistent support and reduce motion transfer between sides of the bed.
- Bamboo-blend cover. Bamboo fabric wicks moisture and breathes better than a plain polyester knit. Modest help for warm sleepers.
- Hybrid airflow. The coil layer allows vertical airflow in a way all-foam mattresses cannot.
Firmness Scale and Disclaimer
Firmness is listed on a 1-to-10 scale that the Canadian bedding industry uses informally. Perception varies by body weight and sleep position, so the same mattress can feel different to two different people:
- 1 to 2: Extra soft, deep contouring
- 3 to 4: Soft, most plush pillow-tops
- 5 to 6: Medium, balanced (most popular range)
- 7 to 8: Medium-firm to firm
- 9 to 10: Extra firm, minimal sinkage
A lighter sleeper (under 130 lbs) typically finds any given mattress feeling 1 point firmer than labelled; a heavier sleeper (over 230 lbs) often finds the same mattress feeling 1 point softer. Side sleepers generally want a 4-6; back sleepers a 5-7; stomach sleepers a 6-8. The best test is always lying on it in the showroom for at least 10 minutes.

Common Questions About the Elena
Is the Elena an all-natural mattress?
No. The comfort layer includes natural latex, which is a natural material, but the mattress also has gel-infused foam and a bamboo-blend cover that contains synthetic fibres. If a certified all-natural or organic mattress is what you want, the Elena isn't the right choice. Ask us about Revive St Charles & Elizabeth or Husky Natural Life instead.
How firm is the Elena?
Medium, approximately 5 to 6 on a 10-point scale. Works well for most sleep positions. See the firmness scale above for context on how firmness perception varies by body weight and sleep position.
Does the Elena sleep cool?
Cooler than an all-foam memory foam mattress because of the pocket-coil airflow and the latex comfort layer (latex breathes better than memory foam). Not cooler in a dramatic way, and not a substitute for bedroom climate control. See the honest-cooling note above.
Is the Elena compatible with an adjustable base?
Hybrids with pocket coils can be used on adjustable bases with some caveats. Call us at (519) 770-0001 to confirm compatibility with your specific base model.
What is the difference between the Elena and other latex-hybrid mattresses?
The Elena pairs a natural latex comfort layer with a high coil count (1,102) in a mid-range price band. Competing latex hybrids either use synthetic latex substitutes or cost significantly more. Come in and compare the Elena to our Restonic latex hybrids side by side; the differences in feel are noticeable.
