The Gel Comfort is an all-foam gel-infused memory foam mattress made in Canada. It's a practical choice for sleepers who want the contouring feel of memory foam at a reasonable price, with a slight heat-conductivity improvement over plain memory foam from the gel beads. Ships rolled in plastic wrap (not boxed) — it arrives compressed, you unroll it on your bed frame and let it expand for 24 to 48 hours before sleeping on it.
What the Gel Comfort Is
- All-foam construction (no innerspring or coil layer)
- Gel-infused memory foam comfort layer over high-density support foam
- Breathable stretch-knit cover
- 10 inches thick
- Medium firmness (approximately 5 to 6 on a 10-point scale)
- CertiPUR-US certified foams
- 10-year warranty
- Made in Canada
- Ships rolled in plastic wrap — not in a box
What "Cooling" Actually Means in a Mattress
Let's be straight with you: a passive cooling mattress does not refrigerate your bed or lower your bedroom air temperature. Here is what it actually does and does not do:
- What helps: Cool-to-touch covers feel cool the moment you lie down. Gel, copper, and graphite infusions modestly improve heat conductivity compared to plain memory foam (which is notorious for trapping heat). Breathable covers (bamboo, Tencel) wick moisture away from skin. All of these are real but incremental benefits.
- What does not happen: The mattress does not actively cool. Once the sleep surface warms up to near body temperature, the cool-to-touch effect fades. No passive mattress gives you the feel of an air-conditioned bed.
- For actual active cooling (water-circulating covers like Eight Sleep, BedJet, or Chilipad), see our smart mattress cover article.
- The bigger lever for sleep temperature is bedroom air. Research suggests aiming for 15 to 20°C in the bedroom for most adults. See our bedroom temperature guide.
Important: All-Foam Cooling Caveat
The Gel Comfort is an all-foam mattress. Foam, even gel-infused foam, does not breathe the way a pocket-coil hybrid does because there's no airflow layer. The gel infusion helps compared to plain memory foam, but if you're a seriously hot sleeper, a hybrid mattress with a pocket-coil support layer (such as our Oasis or Elena) will typically sleep cooler than any all-foam model regardless of gel content.
Firmness Scale and Disclaimer
Firmness is listed on a 1-to-10 scale that the Canadian bedding industry uses informally. Perception varies by body weight and sleep position, so the same mattress can feel different to two different people:
- 1 to 2: Extra soft, deep contouring
- 3 to 4: Soft, most plush pillow-tops
- 5 to 6: Medium, balanced (most popular range)
- 7 to 8: Medium-firm to firm
- 9 to 10: Extra firm, minimal sinkage
A lighter sleeper (under 130 lbs) typically finds any given mattress feeling 1 point firmer than labelled; a heavier sleeper (over 230 lbs) often finds the same mattress feeling 1 point softer. Side sleepers generally want a 4-6; back sleepers a 5-7; stomach sleepers a 6-8. The best test is always lying on it in the showroom for at least 10 minutes.
Who It Suits
- Side sleepers who love memory foam feel. The contouring relieves shoulder and hip pressure.
- Budget-conscious buyers. A mid-range price for a Canadian-made CertiPUR-US certified foam mattress.
- Guest room or secondary bedroom use. Good quality-per-dollar for a bed used intermittently.
- Adjustable base pairing. All-foam mattresses are the ideal companion for adjustable bases because they flex freely at the head and foot hinge points.
Who Should Skip It
- Serious hot sleepers. Even with gel, all-foam traps more heat than a hybrid. Consider the Oasis or Elena.
- People who dislike the memory-foam sink. If you want a springier, more responsive feel, look at a pocket-coil or hybrid option.

Common Questions About the Gel Comfort
Does the Gel Comfort sleep cool?
Cooler than a plain memory foam mattress because of the gel infusion, which marginally improves heat conductivity. Not as cool as a hybrid mattress with a pocket-coil layer (pocket coils allow airflow that no all-foam mattress can match). If cooling is your top priority, a hybrid is the better choice. See the honest cooling note above.
Does the Gel Comfort come in a box?
No. It ships rolled in plastic wrap. You unroll it on your bed frame and let it expand for 24 to 48 hours before sleeping on it.
Is the Gel Comfort good for side sleepers?
Yes, for most average-weight side sleepers. Memory foam contours to the shoulder and hip, relieving pressure points. Lightweight side sleepers may find it slightly too firm; heavier side sleepers may need a thicker memory foam layer for adequate cushioning.
How long does the off-gassing smell last?
Typically 3 to 7 days in a well-ventilated room. The Gel Comfort uses CertiPUR-US certified foams, which are tested for low VOC emissions, but all new foam has some initial odour. Open a window and let it air out.
Is the Gel Comfort suitable for an adjustable base?
Yes. All-foam mattresses are the ideal companion for adjustable bases because they flex freely at hinge points without damaging the internal structure.
How firm is the Gel Comfort?
Medium, approximately 5 to 6 on a 10-point scale. Memory foam contouring makes the perceived firmness slightly softer than a comparable innerspring mattress at the same label.
