This is the part most Cariloha reviews gloss over, so let's address it directly.
Cariloha sheets are not made from bamboo fibre. They are made from viscose derived from bamboo. This is an important distinction because the manufacturing process fundamentally changes the material.
How Bamboo Becomes Viscose
- Bamboo is harvested and pulped. The bamboo stalks are broken down into a cellulose pulp.

How to Make Cariloha Sheets Last
Bamboo viscose requires more careful handling than cotton. Follow these guidelines to maximize their lifespan.
Cariloha Care Guide
- Wash in cold water. Warm or hot water weakens bamboo viscose fibres faster than cotton. Cold water preserves softness and prevents shrinkage.
- Gentle or delicate cycle. The agitation of a normal cycle is too rough for bamboo viscose. Use gentle cycle to reduce fibre stress.
- Mild liquid detergent. Avoid powder detergents (they leave residue) and anything with brighteners or enzymes that can break down the fibres.
- No bleach, ever. Chlorine bleach destroys bamboo viscose fibres. Oxygen bleach should also be used sparingly if at all.
- No fabric softener. Viscose is already soft. Fabric softener coats the fibres and reduces breathability and moisture wicking.
