Quick Answer: Mattress Miracle sells 11 upholstered Beaudoin king headboards in 14 fabrics, from $600 for the Ennis to $800. Beaudoin lists each at 78 inches wide, for a king mattress the Sleep Foundation measures at 76 by 80 inches. All are over $500, so white glove delivery is free on most online orders up to 200 km from Brantford.
How wide is a king size headboard?
A king size headboard needs to cover a mattress 76 inches wide, which is the standard king size given by the Sleep Foundation (76 by 80 inches). Our king bed frames are built for that same mattress. Beaudoin, the Quebec bed maker behind every king headboard on this page, lists its king headboard size as 78 inches. That leaves a little extra on each side of the mattress so the panel reads as part of the bed. If you're adding one to a frame you already own, measure across the head of the frame first.
A California king is a different bed. The Sleep Foundation measures it at 72 by 84 inches, four inches narrower and four inches longer than a king. A king headboard won't line up with its frame. Our guide to the difference between a king and a California king covers which one you have.
Height is the other number. Beaudoin lists seven of these headboards at 49 inches tall and four at 54 inches. How much of that shows above your pillows depends on how high your frame and mattress sit, so bring both heights when you shop. For every bed size side by side, see our bed size chart in inches and centimetres.
Brad, Owner (since 1997): "A king headboard is a statement piece. When it is right for the room, it is genuinely beautiful. When it is too tall for the ceiling or the wrong finish for the floor, it dominates in all the wrong ways. I always ask customers to take photos of their room before they come in so we can help them get it right."
King headboards we sell and what they cost
Mattress Miracle carries 11 king headboards online, and all of them are upholstered Beaudoin models. The Ennis upholstered king headboard at $600 is the lowest king price on this page. The gap from there to the top is $200, so the choice comes down to shape and height more than budget. If your ceiling is a standard 8 feet and the bed sits high, a 49-inch model keeps the wall from feeling crowded. The 54-inch Adam headboard, along with the Adelaide, Chelsea and Noah, suits a taller room or anyone who reads sitting up.
Will a king headboard attach to my bed frame?
A Beaudoin king headboard is made to fit on a bed base, and Beaudoin names three kinds. Most of its pages say these headboards install on Beaudoin platform beds, on Beaudoin metal bed bases, or on "most compatible standard bed bases". For the Adam and Chelsea, Beaudoin adds that a platform bed needs "the appropriate brackets".
A standard metal frame can work if it was made to take a headboard. Beaudoin describes its own headboard-ready metal frame as having "large brackets for a sturdy installation". Check that the head end of your frame has a bracket with bolt holes before you order. Our metal bed frame guide covers what else to look for in a steel frame.
Beaudoin's headboard pages say nothing about wall mounting or a freestanding setup, so we won't promise either one here. Ask in store or call 519-770-0001 and we'll check the model with Beaudoin. Our headboard buying guide on styles, attachment and sizes explains how each method works.
A king headboard on its own, or a full king bed?
A king headboard on its own is the cheaper way to change how a bed looks, as long as you're keeping the frame. The Ennis king headboard is $600, while the complete Ennis upholstered king bed frame is $1,740. If your frame is sound, the headboard alone saves $1,140.
A full bed makes more sense when the frame is the problem: a squeak, a sagging middle, or no way to bolt anything on. Our upholstered king bed frames come with the headboard built in, in the same Beaudoin fabrics. A middle route is a king platform bed plus a headboard. The Beaudoin Level platform bed is $845 in king, so the Level plus an Ennis headboard comes to $1,445. Beaudoin calls the Level headboard compatible, so ask us whether brackets come with the version you order. Mattress first, though, if the budget is tight: our king size mattresses and a headboard can go on one order.

King headboard questions
How wide is a king size headboard in inches?
Beaudoin lists its king headboards at 78 inches. They are made for a standard king mattress, which the Sleep Foundation measures at 76 inches wide by 80 inches long. Measure the head of your frame before you buy.
Can I buy just a headboard?
Yes. All 11 king headboards on this page are sold on their own, from $600 to $800. They fit Beaudoin platform beds and metal bases, and Beaudoin says most compatible standard bed bases too.
Where can I find a cheap king size headboard?
Our lowest king headboard price today is $600 for the Beaudoin Ennis, in any of 14 fabrics, and the Lyon king headboard is next at $649.99. Both are over $500, so white glove delivery is free on most online orders up to 200 km from Brantford.
Will a king headboard fit a California king bed?
No. The Sleep Foundation measures a California king at 72 inches wide, four inches narrower than a king. A headboard sized for a king will hang past both sides of a California king frame. Our California king headboard guide covers the right width.
Will a king headboard attach to a metal bed frame?
It can, if the frame has headboard brackets. Beaudoin says its headboards install on its own metal bed bases and on most compatible standard bed bases. Check the head of your frame for a bracket with bolt holes, or call 519-770-0001 and we'll check your frame.
Can a king headboard be wall mounted or freestanding?
Beaudoin's headboard pages don't cover wall mounting or freestanding use, so ask us in store before planning either. If you want to know how wall-mounted headboards generally go up, our wall-mounted headboard guide walks through it.
Should a headboard sit above the mattress?
Yes. A headboard is mounted so the padded panel rises above the mattress and gives you something to lean on. Beaudoin's king headboards are 49 or 54 inches tall. How much shows above the mattress depends on your frame and mattress height, so bring both measurements.
Do you sell wooden king headboards?
Every king headboard we sell online today is upholstered. If you want bare wood, call 519-770-0001 and ask what we can show you. Our headboards Canada page compares wood, upholstered and storage styles.
Will a king headboard work with an adjustable base?
No. A king bed works without one. A headboard keeps pillows from slipping off the top of the bed, protects the wall and gives you something to sit up against. Our guide on whether you actually need a headboard goes through both sides.
Are your king headboards made in Canada?
All 11 are Beaudoin headboards. Beaudoin says its beds are entirely conceived and manufactured in Canada, at factories in Centre-du-Québec.
