How much room does a king bed with drawers need?
A king bed with drawers needs floor space for the drawer to slide out plus a spot to stand beside it. Start with the mattress: the Better Sleep Council lists a king at 76 by 80 inches, and our king mattress dimensions guide covers the other sizes. The frame adds a few inches around that, and a bench bed adds more, as the Lethbridge's 104-inch width shows.
The Sleep Foundation recommends leaving around 24 inches between each side of a king bed and the walls, and up to 36 inches for a roomier feel. For a sense of scale only, Beaudoin is a bed maker whose frames are not in this collection. A platform storage bed holds the mattress on its own deck, so a box spring isn't part of the design. Stacking one on top would also push the mattress uncomfortably high. Each maker sets its own rule here. Beaudoin, the Quebec bed maker, says its own products don't need a box spring except metal bed bases and upholstered beds designed to use one, and that rule covers Beaudoin beds only.
