A California king, about 72 by 84 inches on the same chart, does not swap with a king: each mattress overhangs the other's frame by 4 inches somewhere. Yes. A king bed frame needs centre support because the mattress spans 76 inches, wider than side rails and slats can carry for years without bending. Look for a centre rail from head to foot with at least one leg on the floor, a solid platform, or a base made of two halves. The Ontario Building Code minimum for a main bedroom is 9.8 square metres without a closet or 8.8 with one, per the City of Oshawa's basement suite code guide. - Assuming a queen frame will hold a king mattress. A queen frame is 16 inches narrower, so the king hangs 8 inches over each side and strains both.
