Julien Beaudoin Bed Frame Review: Every Model We Carry, Compared

Most upholstered bed frames sold in Canada are made overseas. The fabric is wrapped around a particleboard frame in a factory somewhere in Guangdong or Ho Chi Minh City, packed into a container, and shipped across the Pacific. They look nice in photos. They cost $400 to $700. And many of them start creaking, sagging, or peeling within three to five years.

Julien Beaudoin is a different thing entirely. Founded in 1963 in Daveluyville, Quebec, they have been building bed frames in Canada for over 60 years. Their factory sits in the heart of Centre-du-Quebec, a region with deep roots in furniture manufacturing. Everything from the frame joinery to the upholstery is done in-house, by Canadian workers, to Canadian standards.

We have carried Julien Beaudoin beds at our Brantford showroom for years. They are not our cheapest option. They are not even close to our cheapest option. But they are the beds that customers come back and tell us they still love five, ten, fifteen years later.

Who Is Julien Beaudoin

A brief background, because the brand is not as well known as it should be.

Julien Beaudoin ltee is one of Canada's largest bed frame manufacturers. They design, build, and ship from their factory in Daveluyville, a small town about halfway between Montreal and Quebec City. The company started in 1963 making metal bed frames, and over the decades expanded into upholstered beds, platform beds, and adjustable bases.

Today, they supply retailers across Canada, including some of the largest chains. Costco has carried their products. So have dozens of independent furniture stores. The difference between buying a Beaudoin at a chain store and buying one from us is that we carry the full range of models and footboard options, and we can actually explain the differences between them.

Woodland vs. Absolute: The Footboard Choice

This is the first decision every Beaudoin buyer makes, and it is the one that causes the most confusion. Here is what it means.

Every Julien Beaudoin bed frame is available in two footboard configurations:

Woodland Footboard: A lower-profile footboard that sits several inches below the top of the mattress. The mattress is visible from the foot of the bed. This gives the bed a lighter, more contemporary look. If you tend to sit on the edge of the bed at the foot, the Woodland makes that easier because you are not climbing over a tall footboard.

Absolute Footboard: A taller footboard that wraps around the mattress more completely. The bed looks more enclosed, more formal, more like a traditional bed frame. It provides a slightly more finished appearance from the foot of the bed because the mattress is more contained.

The headboard, side rails, upholstery fabric, and internal construction are identical between the two options. The only physical difference is the footboard height. The price difference is typically $0 to $5 between Woodland and Absolute versions of the same model.

All 13 Bed Frame Models

Every model below is available in queen size at the listed price, and most are available in king and other sizes. Each comes in both Woodland and Absolute footboard options. The prices shown are for the complete bed frame (headboard + side rails + footboard + slats).

The price range is tight: $1,195 to $1,350 for a queen. That is a $155 spread across 13 models, which tells you that Beaudoin is not playing pricing games. The difference between models is almost entirely about headboard style and design language, not build quality or materials. You are choosing an aesthetic, not a tier.

Our Top Three Recommendations

If you are overwhelmed by 13 options, here is where we usually start:

Best all-around: London at $1,195. The most versatile design at the lowest price. Clean lines that work in almost any bedroom style. If you are not sure what you want, start here.

Most comfortable headboard: Heaven at $1,250. The triple-layer padded headboard is genuinely plush. If you lean against your headboard to read or watch television, the Heaven feels noticeably softer than the other models. Dorothy calls it "the one that feels like a hug."

Most dramatic: Chelsea at $1,350. The button-tufted design makes a statement. It is the bed that anchors a room. Also available in king size at $1,990 for the full hotel-suite effect.

Headboard-Only Options

Every Julien Beaudoin bed model has a matching standalone headboard available. This is useful if you already have a bed frame you like (or an adjustable base) and just want a quality headboard to complete the look.

Headboard prices range from $330 to $530. Pairing a Beaudoin headboard with an adjustable base is a popular configuration. The headboard attaches to the wall or to brackets on the base, so it stays in place while the mattress adjusts.

The ErgoBox and ErgoSportive Adjustable Bases

What most people do not realize is that Julien Beaudoin also manufactures premium adjustable beds. The ErgoBox at $3,300 and the ErgoSportive at $5,150 are both Beaudoin products.

These are the luxury end of the adjustable bed spectrum. We have reviewed them in detail in our wall hugger adjustable bed guide, but here are the highlights:

ErgoBox ($3,300): German motors, wall-hugging, pillow tilt, under-bed LED lighting, and near-silent operation. The standout feature is how quiet it is. If your partner sleeps while you adjust the bed, the ErgoBox will not wake them. It also includes a storage compartment at the foot of the base, which is a unique feature among adjustable beds.

ErgoSportive ($5,150): The most advanced adjustable base we carry. Hospital-grade engineering adapted for home use. Near-silent motors, independent lumbar zone, full app integration, and the most responsive wall-hugging mechanism available. This is the base that physiotherapists and sleep specialists recommend for patients with serious mobility or respiratory conditions.

Both are made in Quebec, same factory as the bed frames. The manufacturing quality is consistent across the entire Beaudoin product line.

Construction Quality: What Justifies the Price

A Julien Beaudoin queen bed frame costs $1,195 to $1,350. An imported upholstered bed from IFDC or a comparable manufacturer costs $380 to $650. What are you actually paying for?

Frame Construction

Beaudoin frames use a kiln-dried hardwood internal structure with steel reinforcement at stress points. Imported frames typically use softwood or particleboard. The practical difference: a Beaudoin frame does not develop the creaking that plagues particleboard beds after a few years of use. The joinery holds tighter over time.

Upholstery

The fabric is commercial-grade, meaning it has been tested for abrasion resistance (measured in double rubs) at levels higher than residential-grade fabric. The foam padding in the headboard and side rails is denser than what you find in budget frames. Denser foam holds its shape longer. After five years, the headboard on a Beaudoin still feels firm and supportive. Budget headboards tend to flatten and lose their cushion.

Hardware

Heavier-gauge bolts and brackets. The side rail attachment points use steel-on-steel connections rather than the steel-on-particleboard connections common in imported frames. This is the single biggest durability difference. Particleboard attachment points strip out over time, especially if you move or disassemble the bed. Hardwood and steel do not have that problem.

Styling Guide by Bedroom Type

With 13 models to choose from, narrowing down by your bedroom style helps.

Modern Minimalist

London ($1,195) or Ennis ($1,200). Clean lines, no ornamentation, neutral tones. These disappear into a modern bedroom rather than dominating it. Pair with a low-profile aesthetic and minimal nightstands.

Cozy and Warm

Heaven ($1,250) or Lyon ($1,199). The padded, pillow-style headboards invite you to lean back with a book. These beds make the bedroom feel like a retreat. Go with the Woodland footboard for a softer overall look.

Boutique Hotel

Chelsea ($1,350) or Liverpool ($1,295). Button tufting on the Chelsea and refined detailing on the Liverpool give that curated hotel-room feeling. Use the Absolute footboard for the full enclosed look.

Bold and Dramatic

Adam ($1,300) or Ocean ($1,339). Wide headboard panels with presence. These are the beds that anchor a large master bedroom. They need space around them to breathe. Not ideal for small rooms.

Transitional (Works with Everything)

Jane ($1,229) or Noah ($1,275). If your style is "a bit of everything" or you redecorate periodically, these models are chameleon beds. Classic enough for traditional rooms, clean enough for modern spaces.

Who Should Buy a Beaudoin (and Who Should Not)

Buy a Beaudoin If:

• You are furnishing a bedroom you plan to keep for 10+ years. The construction justifies the price over time.
• You care about Canadian manufacturing. Every dollar goes to a Quebec factory and Canadian workers.
• You want a real headboard. Not the thin, flat panel that comes with budget frames. A Beaudoin headboard has depth, padding, and structure.
• You lean against your headboard regularly. Reading, watching TV, morning coffee in bed. The padding quality matters for comfort.
• You have had a cheap bed frame fall apart on you. If you are replacing a creaking, sagging imported frame, a Beaudoin will feel like a different category of product.

Do Not Buy a Beaudoin If:

• You are furnishing a first apartment on a tight budget. A Hickory Ridge at $170 or an Elysian Velvet at $380 does the job for less than a third of the price.
• You move frequently. Beaudoin beds are solid but heavy. Disassembling and reassembling every year or two is more effort than with a lightweight platform bed.
• You are buying for a rental property or guest room. The construction quality is wasted on a bed that gets used ten times a year. Invest in a quality mattress instead.
• You are outside Ontario and have not seen the bed in person. At $1,200+, we strongly recommend experiencing the bed in our showroom before ordering. Fabric colour, headboard padding, and overall scale are hard to judge from photos alone.

Mattress Pairing Notes

Julien Beaudoin bed frames use a slat system that supports any mattress type. A few practical considerations:

• Standard mattresses (Restonic, Sleep In): Work perfectly on the slat system. The Restonic ComfortCare at $1,125 or the Sleep In Esha at $930 pair beautifully with Beaudoin frames in terms of both quality and price tier.
• Rolled mattresses (Restonit): Also work fine on slats. If you want to order a Beaudoin frame and have a mattress arrive in a box, the Glacier Peyto at $1,045 is the best match in quality.
• Adjustable bases: If you want an adjustable base inside a Beaudoin frame, the headboard attaches independently (to the wall or brackets). The adjustable base sits inside the frame perimeter. This works, but discuss the specific configuration with Talia before ordering so we can confirm compatibility.
