For tall residents of Brantford, finding a comfortable sleeping position often involves curling up or accepting that feet will dangle. It doesn't have to be this way. The California King bed frame is designed specifically to solve this problem, offering luxurious length without sacrificing too much width.
At Mattress Miracle, we've seen the relief on customers' faces when they lie down on a California King and realize they can stretch out fully. However, upgrading to this size requires a specific frame. Let's explore your options.

California King vs. Standard King: The Difference
There is a common misconception that a California King is bigger in every way. It's actually narrower but longer.
The Dimensions
Standard King (Eastern King): 76" Wide x 80" Long
Best for: Couples who want maximum personal width. Fits best in wider, square rooms.
California King (Western King): 72" Wide x 84" Long
Best for: Individuals 6'0" and taller. Fits best in longer, narrower rooms. Also excellent for allowing pets to sleep at the foot of the bed without crowding you.
Why Choose a California King?
- No More Hanging Feet: The 84-inch length accommodates sleepers up to roughly 6'6" comfortably without curling up.
- Aesthetic Appeal: The elongated shape can look more elegant and proportional in large rectangular master bedrooms.
- Pet Space: If your dog sleeps at the foot of the bed, the extra length gives them their own zone without kicking you.
Room Size Requirements
Because a California King is 7 feet long (plus headboard depth), we recommend a room size of at least 12 x 12 feet, though 12 x 14 feet is ideal to allow for walking space and dressers. Measure your room's length carefully before ordering!

Types of Cal King Frames Available
Because this is a specialty size, not every frame style comes in Cal King. However, you still have excellent options:
1. Metal Platform Frames
Simple, sturdy, and economical. These provide rigid support and ample under-bed storage. Ideal if you want a minimalist look or plan to use a bed skirt.
2. Upholstered Frames
These add a touch of luxury and softness to the bedroom. A tufted headboard on a Cal King frame creates a stunning focal point in a master suite.
3. Adjustable Bases
Yes, you can get adjustable bases in California King! This is the ultimate in luxury, allowing you to raise the head and foot for reading, watching TV, or alleviating back pain.
Fitting a Cal King in Brantford Homes
Whether you're in a historic home in Dufferin with long, narrow bedrooms or a new build in West Brant with a spacious master suite, a Cal King can be a great fit.
- Doorways & Stairs: A traditional Cal King box spring is huge and often won't fit up tight staircases. We highly recommend split box springs or a foldable platform frame to ensure successful delivery into your bedroom.

Is a California King bigger than a regular King?
In total surface area, a Standard King is actually slightly larger (6,080 sq in vs 6,048 sq in). The Cal King just redistributes that area to be longer and narrower.
Can I use King sheets on a Cal King bed?
No. Standard King sheets will be too short and too wide. You must buy sheets specifically labeled "California King." We stock these at Mattress Miracle.
Do I need a special headboard?
Yes. The mounting brackets on a Cal King frame are spaced differently (72" width) than a Standard King (76"). However, some universal headboards can adjust to fit both.
Are Cal King mattresses more expensive?
Usually, the price is the same as a Standard King for the mattress itself. However, accessories like frames and sheets can sometimes carry a slight premium due to being less common.
Will it fit in my 10x10 room?
It would be very tight. A 10-foot room is 120 inches. The bed is 84 inches long. That leaves only 36 inches (3 feet) of walking space total, 1.5 feet on either side if centered. We recommend a minimum room length of 12 feet.
