St Charles/Elizabeth vs Tiffany Rose/Jasmine: The Same Line, Different Feel

The St Charles, Elizabeth, Tiffany Rose, and Jasmine are all part of Restonic's Revive series. They share the same core materials: Talalay copper latex, natural wool blend quilt, true hand tufting, and a 1,188-count three-zone pocket coil system. The same Canadian manufacturing. The same 10-year limited warranty.

The difference is the top construction and profile. The Tiffany Rose and Jasmine are tight top mattresses at 13 inches: flat surface, comfort layers integrated beneath the cover, a more responsive and immediate feel. The St Charles and Elizabeth are Euro top mattresses at 15 inches: an additional sewn-on comfort layer across the top surface, more cushioning, and a taller profile.

This article focuses on what the Euro top construction specifically adds, why it suits different sleepers, and whether the higher price over the tight top models is justified for your situation.

What a Euro Top Actually Adds

A Euro top is a separate comfort layer sewn flush to the top edges of the mattress. Unlike a pillow top, which is stitched with a visible seam around its perimeter and can sit unevenly or compress asymmetrically over time, a Euro top is sewn with a seam at the mattress edge, creating a clean, flat surface that behaves consistently across the full sleep area.

What the Euro top adds in practice is cumulative cushioning. The comfort layers beneath the cover in a tight top are functional and carefully designed, but they are compressed in the overall mattress profile. The Euro top gives those layers more space to express themselves, and adds a dedicated comfort layer above them. The result is a sleep surface with more immediate plushness on first contact, deeper contouring as body weight settles in, and a generally more enveloping feel.

For some sleepers, this is exactly what they are looking for. Side sleepers who have found firm or medium-firm surfaces uncomfortable at the shoulder and hip often respond well to a Euro top. Back sleepers who want spinal support but also want a sense of cushioning rather than lying on a firm platform also tend to prefer Euro top designs.

The 15-inch total profile also has practical implications. Sheet sets need to accommodate the deeper mattress. Most standard deep-pocket sheets fit 15 inches, but it is worth verifying before you buy new bedding. The taller mattress also sits higher off the floor when placed on a standard bed frame, which matters for ease of getting in and out of bed, particularly for older sleepers.

Euro Top Longevity and Why Hand Tufting Is the Deciding Factor

Euro top mattresses have a reputation problem that is partly deserved: in many designs, the additional comfort layer on top compresses unevenly over time. Body impressions develop faster on a Euro top than on an integrated tight top because the sewn-on layer bears direct body weight without the mechanical anchoring of the layers beneath it.

This is where the Revive's true hand tufting becomes the critical construction detail for the Euro top models specifically.

Hand tufting pulls ribbons through the full depth of the mattress, including through the Euro top comfort layer. Every internal layer is mechanically bound to the others. When a body impression begins to develop, the tufting prevents the comfort layer from migrating laterally or compressing independently of the support layers beneath it. The compression is distributed through the tufting points and resisted by the mechanical tension of the ribbons across the full mattress depth.

Most Euro top mattresses at lower price points use either glue bonding or machine-applied staples to hold layers together. Neither provides the mechanical anchoring that hand tufting does. The result in those mattresses is that the Euro top comfort layer separates progressively from the body of the mattress, creating uneven feel and accelerated impression development.

Medium-Firm vs Firm: Why the Distinction Matters

The St Charles is described as medium-firm, not simply firm. This is a meaningful distinction that buyers often overlook when comparing it to the Tiffany Rose, which is the firm tight top option.

Medium-firm is the sweet spot that most clinical literature identifies as optimal for lower back pain. A study published in The Lancet found that medium-firm mattresses produced significantly better outcomes for chronic lower back pain than firm mattresses, contradicting the long-standing advice that firm is always better for back health. The Canadian Chiropractic Association similarly notes that appropriate lumbar support does not require a uniformly hard surface and that the ideal support level varies by body weight, sleep position, and individual anatomy.

The practical difference between medium-firm and firm is in how far the comfort layers yield before the coil system takes over. A firm mattress offers resistance early, limiting how much the hips and shoulders sink. A medium-firm mattress allows a degree of initial contouring, particularly at pressure points, while still maintaining the support architecture beneath. For most back sleepers, medium-firm provides adequate lumbar support with less pressure at the hip than a firm surface. For stomach sleepers who prefer a flat surface, firm can still be the better choice, which is why the Tiffany Rose exists in the lineup.

The Elizabeth is plush, the same comfort level designation as the Jasmine in the tight top line. In a Euro top design, plush means considerably more immediate cushioning than in a tight top plush, because the Euro top adds a comfort layer above the standard plush construction.

Talalay Copper Latex, Wool, and the Full Layer Stack

The St Charles and Elizabeth share the same material stack as the Tiffany Rose and Jasmine: cooling fabric cover, wool blend quilt, gel fibre, Talalay copper latex, Duralast support foam, hand tufting, 1,188-count three-zone pocket coil, and full foam encasement. The Euro top adds an additional comfort layer above this stack.

Those properties are identical in the St Charles and Elizabeth.

What the Euro top adds is a thicker combined comfort zone above the coil system, which means more cumulative pressure relief at the shoulder and hip. For the St Charles's medium-firm configuration, this translates to enough cushioning that back sleepers feel supported without the surface feeling hard under the hip. For the Elizabeth's plush configuration, the Euro top produces a distinctly enveloping feel that is considerably softer on first contact than any tight top in the lineup.

Who This Mattress Suits

Where to look elsewhere: if you prefer a flatter, more responsive feel and a lower profile, the Tiffany Rose or Jasmine delivers the same Revive materials in a tight top at a lower price. If budget is the primary consideration and the Revive materials are beyond the range, the Restonic ComfortCare is an excellent hybrid at $1,499 Queen.

Our Honest Take and the Price Question

The St Charles and Elizabeth cost $480 more than the Tiffany Rose and Jasmine for a Queen. That is a real premium, and it deserves a real answer on whether it is worth it.

If you have tested the tight top models and found them comfortable, the St Charles and Elizabeth are not objectively better. They are different. The Euro top adds cushioning. The hand tufting means that cushioning holds its shape over years of use in a way that most Euro top designs do not manage. But if a 13-inch tight top suits your preferences, paying $480 more for 2 more inches and a Euro top layer you did not need does not make sense.

Where the premium is worth it, in our view, is for sleepers who specifically need more cushioning than a tight top provides: dedicated side sleepers who find the shoulder pressure on the Jasmine still noticeable, back sleepers with hip sensitivity who need a bit more surface give while maintaining lumbar support, or buyers who have historically preferred the feel of premium Euro top hotel mattresses and want to replicate that at home.

The hand tufting through the Euro top layer is the construction choice that separates this from other premium Euro tops we have seen. It is the difference between a mattress that is a sound investment at $3,459 and one that starts to feel wrong in year five or six. We are confident enough in the Revive construction to say that if you buy the St Charles or Elizabeth at our Brantford store, we do not expect to have a difficult conversation about it in year seven.
