Serta is available at Sleep Country Canada, Leon's, The Brick, Costco Canada, and other authorized retailers. They do not sell direct-to-consumer in Canada.

The Corporate Reality

After emerging from bankruptcy, Serta Simmons has been focused on cutting costs and rebuilding margins. For consumers, this often means thinner comfort layers, lower material quality, and more emphasis on marketing than engineering. The company spends heavily on retail partnerships and advertising, costs that get built into the mattress price without adding anything to the sleep experience.

This is the fundamental problem with most big-brand mattresses: you are paying for the brand, the retail markup, and the advertising budget, not just the materials inside the mattress.

Where Serta Falls Short

We are not making claims we cannot support. These are the issues we hear from customers who are replacing Serta mattresses, combined with patterns documented in consumer reviews.

1. Durability Concerns

This is the most consistent complaint across Serta's lineup. Customers report body impressions and sagging developing within six months to two years, particularly in the Perfect Sleeper and iComfort lines. The root cause is typically thin comfort layers. When the top foam layers are only one to two inches thick, they compress under body weight relatively quickly. Once the comfort layer compresses, you feel the support layer beneath, which changes the feel of the mattress entirely.

Serta's warranty requires depressions to exceed 1.5 inches before they will replace a mattress. Many customers report sagging that is clearly visible and uncomfortable but measures just under the threshold. Serta mattresses are sold through large retail chains (Sleep Country, Leon's, The Brick), each of which adds their own margin. The mattress you buy at retail includes the manufacturer's margin, the retailer's margin, the advertising cost, and the overhead of maintaining large showroom spaces. These costs do not improve your sleep.

But at $1,500-$2,400, you are paying a significant premium. The Restonic alternatives offer comparable or better performance:

Restonic Revive Reflections Euro Top ($1,395): A flippable, dual-sided mattress with 1,200 individually wrapped coils. Two comfort surfaces in one mattress means you can flip for a different feel as the mattress ages, effectively doubling the useful lifespan. The euro top side provides plush comfort while the flipped side offers firmer support. No Serta model at this price is flippable.

Restonic Luxury Silk and Wool ($2,395): For customers looking at the top end of the iComfort range, this Restonic model uses natural silk and wool fibres for temperature regulation, combined with 884 zoned individually wrapped coils. The natural fibres breathe better than the gel-infused memory foam in the iComfort, and zoned coils provide targeted support for different body regions.

Replacing Serta iComfort ProHD ($2,000-$2,400+)

Making the Switch from Serta

If you are currently on a Serta mattress and considering a change, here is what to expect.

Adjustment Period

Any new mattress requires an adjustment period of one to three weeks. Your body has adapted to your current sleep surface, even if that surface is not ideal. The new mattress may feel different, not necessarily wrong. Give it at least two weeks before judging.

What If Your Serta Is Sagging
