After 38 years fitting mattresses at 441½ West St in Brantford, Dorothy and I have learned something most mattress stores will not tell you: firmness ratings are useless without lying down for 15 minutes in your actual sleep position. We have watched hundreds of customers pick the wrong mattress based on labels alone.
Here is What Actually Matters
Your sleep position and body weight determine everything. I am a back sleeper at 210 pounds , I need a 7-8 firmness or my lower back sags. Dorothy is a side sleeper at 140 pounds , she uses a 5 firmness for shoulder pressure relief. The mattress that works for me would wreck her shoulders, and her mattress would hurt my back.
We stock about 40 models at the Brantford showroom, but only 8-10 will actually work for your specific body and sleep style. This is why Dorothy and I spend 20-30 minutes with each customer , we need to watch how your spine aligns when you lie down. Queen mattresses run $899–$3,499 depending on construction. Most Brantford families spend $1,200–$1,800 for quality that lasts 10-12 years.
The Brands We Carry and Why We Chose Them
Every brand in our showroom has been personally vetted. I drove to the Restonic factory in 2019 to see their ComfortCare gel foam process. Dorothy tested every Sleep In model herself before we added it to the floor. We do not stock brands we have not stood behind personally.
Restonic is our premium choice and the brand I recommend most often. Their ComfortCare line has 1,222 individually wrapped pocket coils in a queen , each coil moves independently so your partner's movement doesn't disturb you. Restonic also makes mattresses that roll for delivery, which works well if you have a tight staircase or a small doorway. For customers who want natural materials, their organic options use certified fibres without the petrochemical foam smell. See our Restonic collection.
Sleep In is our Canadian-made favourite and what I call the best value for genuine quality in the showroom. These are flippable mattresses , one side is firmer, one is softer , and rotating them quarterly extends the lifespan to 12-15 years. The Whitney has been one of our most consistent sellers for years. For couples who disagree on firmness, Sleep In is often the answer: each partner sleeps on their preferred side, and the mattress grows with you as your needs change. See our Sleep In collection.
Restonit is the brand we reach for first when a customer is shopping with an adjustable base in mind. Many Restonit models are built to flex comfortably with powered head and foot elevation , they move with the base without stressing the coil or foam layers. If you already have an adjustable base at home, or you are buying one alongside a new mattress, tell us when you come in and we will point you straight to the Restonit options.
Snowdown builds some of the nicest firm mattresses we carry. If you are a back sleeper, a heavier sleeper, or someone who finds most mattresses too soft after a few months, Snowdown is worth trying. They focus on support-first construction without the extra layers of foam that compress over time. Customers who have spent years waking up with lower back pain often find their answer in a Snowdown. See our firm mattress collection.
CJ Mulhulland brings premium foam construction to the mid-to-upper range of our lineup. Their foams have a density and quality you can feel the moment you lie down , it is a noticeably different experience from budget foam. For customers who prefer the contouring feel of foam over coil bounce, CJ Mulhulland is what we reach for first.
The Firmness Question Nobody Answers Honestly
Here is what I tell every customer: medium-firm (5-6 on our 1-10 scale) works for about 60 percent of people. But if you are a 250-pound back sleeper, you need 8-9 firmness. If you are a 120-pound side sleeper, you need 3-4 firmness. The mattress industry pushes medium-firm for everyone because it is "safe" , but safe does not mean right.
Dorothy handles all customers with medical conditions because she knows which foam densities help specific issues. Post-surgery recovery needs different support than chronic arthritis. She matches foam density and coil gauge to your condition , this is not something you can do from online mattress quizzes.
If you are a back sleeper over 200 pounds, check our firm mattress collection. Side sleepers under 160 pounds should see our plush options. Everyone else , come lie down on 4-5 different models at our showroom and your back will tell you which one works.
Why We Focus on Brands You Can Try in Person
We tried stocking compressed foam brands in 2018. Within 18 months, we stopped because too many customers returned them. The problem is not the mattresses themselves , it is that buying a mattress based on online reviews does not work. What feels right for a 200-pound back sleeper feels terrible for a 140-pound side sleeper. You need to lie down and test.
We now focus on brands you can try at 441½ West St before buying. You spend 2,500+ hours per year on your mattress , spending 30 minutes lying down on different models is worth it.
What to Bring When You Visit
Bring your bedroom measurements (length, width, ceiling height if you are considering a taller headboard). Bring your current pillow if you want Dorothy to check whether your neck aligns properly with different mattress heights. Wear comfortable clothes , you will be lying down for 30-40 minutes testing different models.
Queen mattresses need rooms at least 10 feet by 10 feet. King mattresses need 12 feet by 12 feet minimum. We also need to know if you have a box spring or platform bed , some mattresses perform better on certain foundations.
Call us at (519) 770-0001 before driving over if you have specific medical conditions. Dorothy likes to block out extra time for post-surgery, chronic pain, or complicated sleep issues. Shop Pay financing is available for online orders. Family owned since 1987 , we are not going anywhere.
Questions We Get Every Day
Brad, Owner (since 1987): "The single best thing you can do before buying a mattress is come in and lie down on it. No online quiz or algorithm can replicate what your own body tells you in five minutes on the right mattress."
Brantford's Local Mattress Experts Since 1987

We understand the local community, the range of budgets, and the value Ontarians place on quality goods that last. Unlike big-box chains, every staff member on our floor knows the products personally and has no commission incentive to upsell you.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know which mattress firmness is right for me?
Firmness depends on your sleep position and body weight. Side sleepers generally need a softer surface (plush or medium) to cushion hips and shoulders, while back and stomach sleepers usually need medium-firm to firm support to keep the spine aligned. At our Brantford showroom we encourage you to lie on each mattress for at least five minutes in your normal sleep position before deciding.
What brands does Mattress Miracle carry?
We carry Restonic ComfortCare, Sleep In (Canadian-made and flippable), Snowdown firm-support mattresses, CJ Mulhulland premium foam, and Restonit adjustable-bed-friendly mattresses. Every brand on our floor has been personally tested by Brad and the team. We do not carry brands we cannot stand behind.
How long should a quality mattress last?
A well-made mattress with proper support (a good foundation or adjustable base) typically lasts 10 to 15 years. Flippable mattresses like Sleep In can extend their life because you rotate the wear across both sides. Signs it is time to replace your mattress include visible sagging, waking with back pain, or noticeably better sleep in a hotel bed.
Do you offer delivery in Brantford and the surrounding area?
Yes. We offer white-glove delivery across Brantford and the broader Brant County region, including Hamilton, Cambridge, and Milton. Our team sets up your new mattress and removes the old one so you do not have to worry about logistics.
Is there a comfort guarantee?
Yes. We offer a 60-night comfort guarantee on qualifying mattresses. If the feel is not right after sleeping on it for a few weeks, come back in and we will work with you to find the correct comfort level. Details are available in store or by calling (519) 770-0001.
