Stain vs Odour: Two Different Problems
Urine leaves behind two types of residue: dissolved compounds that cause the yellowish stain on fabric, and uric acid crystals that are largely invisible but cause odour when they reactivate with warmth and humidity.
What Causes the Yellow Stain
Fresh urine is 95% water, with the remaining 5% including urea, uric acid, creatinine, dissolved salts, and urochrome -- the pigment compound that gives urine its characteristic yellow colour.
