Latex foam is made one of two ways. Dunlop comes out denser and firmer; Talalay, expanded by vacuum and flash-frozen before baking, comes out lighter and springier.

What Is a Natural Latex Mattress?

A natural latex mattress uses latex foam made from rubber-tree sap for its comfort layers, its support core, or both. A factory whips the sap into foam and cures it with heat. Simplest All-Latex Build: Natura Solace

The Natura Solace 9-inch all-latex mattress ($3,393.40 queen) opens the Latex Line: cotton, 2.3 lb of Natura Grow Wool and an inch of EcoQuilt foam over 2 inches of NaturaLatex and a 6-inch NaturaLatex core, with no coils or memory foam. It suits adjustable bases and low frames. With one comfort layer, a heavier side sleeper sinks less than on the 11-inch models.

Same 9-Inch Height, Different Latex: Blossom and Premier

The Natura Blossom ($3,941.20 queen) repeats the Solace layers; Natura's own Blossom page offers firm, plush and split firm/plush versions, so ask which one you are ordering. The Natura Premier all-Talalay mattress ($4,491.20) names Talalay for both its comfort layer and its core, for a lighter, more even feel.

Two Comfort Layers at 11 Inches: Majestic and Twilight

The Natura Majestic ($3,941.20 queen) adds a second comfort layer, soft over medium-firm, which its listing calls the balance most side and back sleepers are after. The Natura Twilight Talalay mattress ($4,491.20) uses the same order in Talalay; its listing says to give it a minute or two for the firmer layer to show its support.

Each Side Set Differently for Couples: Sovereign and Eco Sanctuary

The Natura Sovereign ($5,369 queen) tops the Latex Line with separate soft and medium-firm Talalay comfort layers, so each side can be set to a different firmness. The Natura Eco Sanctuary ($5,589) does the same in the Organic Line.

Natura's Organic Line: Eco Haven and Eco Brilliance

Natura calls its cotton, Natura Grow Wool and NaturaLatex models its Organic Line. The Natura Eco Haven ($3,721.20 queen) is 9 inches with no polyurethane foam and can take a different comfort layer on each side. The Natura Eco Brilliance two-layer latex mattress ($4,161.20) adds a second comfort layer and is one of two Natura models on our Brantford floor. Natura describes the Eco Brilliance and the Eco Transcend as made with GOTS-certified organic materials (organic cotton and wool) and lists no organic certification for their latex. For the other Natura models, no certificate has been shown to us.

A Latex Mattress Under $2,000: Restonit Organique

The Restonit Organique 10-inch latex and gel foam mattress ($1,831 queen) is the lowest-priced mattress here with a natural latex comfort layer. Its listing puts 4 lb gel memory foam over natural Talalay latex, then high-resilience and soy-based foams, so you feel memory foam first. It is made in Canada, with CertiPUR-US certified foams and a 10-year non-prorated warranty. "Organique" is a product name; the listing makes no organic certification claim.

Latex Over Coils: Natura Green Spring and Eco Transcend Hybrids

Natura's Green Spring hybrids put NaturaLatex over wrapped coils (1,020 in five zones, per the Harmony, Serene and Tranquil listings), and each of the four listings says the mattress is made or built in Canada. The Natura Green Spring Harmony ($2,075.60 queen) has 2 inches of medium-firm latex, the Serene ($2,623.40) 4 inches of plush NaturaLatex, the Tranquil ($3,393.40) 4 inches of Talalay and the 16-inch Ultimate ($4,491.20) two 3-inch Talalay layers. All four carry 10-year warranties.

The Organic Line's Natura Eco Transcend hybrid ($2,843.40 queen, on our floor) puts two 2-inch NaturaLatex layers over a 9.5-inch coil core, with a 20-year warranty; the Eco Oasis ($2,295.60) has one. Dunlop vs Talalay Latex: What's the Difference?

Dunlop and Talalay latex start from the same rubber-tree sap and differ in how the foam is made. Dunlop latex is whipped, poured into a mould and baked in one pass, so it tends to come out denser and firmer. Talalay latex goes into a partly filled mould, is expanded by vacuum, flash-frozen and then baked, which spreads the cells more evenly and gives a lighter, springier foam.

Neither one wins across the board. A firm Dunlop core under a softer comfort layer is a common pairing, while an all-Talalay bed such as the Natura Sovereign feels lighter and more even from top to bottom. The disadvantages of a latex mattress are price, weight, bounce, a wait for most models and, for some people, allergy:

• Weight. Solid latex is heavy to carry upstairs and to rotate.
• Bounce. A partner's movement carries further than on slow memory foam; split comfort layers help with firmness, not motion.
• Feel. If you love sinking in, latex can feel firm for the first few nights.

Natural latex mattresses suit sleepers who want a bed that pushes back, changes shape quickly when they move, and comes with a long warranty:

Latex vs Memory Foam: Which Is Better?

Latex vs memory foam is a question of feel more than quality: latex pushes back at once, while memory foam softens with body heat and sinks slowly. We sell both, and every mattress we sell, latex and memory foam alike, is on one page.

The pressure row comes from Low and colleagues at the National University of Singapore, published in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine in 2017. Twenty participants lay on each mattress in three postures for six minutes, and the latex lowered peak pressure on the torso and buttocks and spread pressure more evenly. The study measured pressure on a sensor mat; it did not measure sleep quality or pain.

Latex Allergy and Latex Mattresses: What the Research Says

A latex mattress contains natural rubber, so anyone with a latex allergy should treat it with care. Latex allergy is a reaction to proteins in natural rubber latex, and the research on mattresses specifically is thin.

If your allergist tells you to avoid latex, skip every latex mattress named here, the Organique included. Two mattresses Mattress Miracle ships free across Canada list no latex: the Restonit Frost gel memory foam and nano-coil mattress ($1,852 queen) and the Sleep In Gel Comfort ($1,129). Every latex mattress has a cover and quilting between you and the latex, but we found no study that measured whether that prevents reactions, so we will not tell you a latex bed is safe for an allergy.

What Is the Healthiest, Least Toxic Mattress? Certifications That Matter

We know of no Canadian regulator that certifies a mattress as "non-toxic", and there is no official "least toxic" ranking. What you can check is what each part is made of and which independent standard, if any, covers it. Our page on organic mattresses in Canada lists the natural-material models we carry.

As for the mattresses on this page: none comes with a GOLS certificate shown to us, and we claim none. The GOTS wording for the Eco Brilliance and Eco Transcend is Natura's, as described above. Fire safety is the other half of "what is in it". Canada's Mattresses Regulations under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act set a cigarette test (CAN/CGSB-4.2 No. 27.7-2023); crib, cradle and bassinet mattresses are excluded. The surface may not melt or char more than 50 mm from the cigarette, or keep burning 10 minutes after it goes out. If fire-retardant chemistry matters to you, ask what the fire barrier is made of.

What Natural Latex Mattresses Cost in Canada

Is a Natural Latex Mattress Worth the Price?

Usually yes, for a sleeper who likes the feel and keeps a bed a long time. A $3,393.40 Natura Solace queen over its 20-year warranty term works out to about $0.46 a night; a $1,831 Organique over its 10-year warranty, about $0.50. A warranty covers defects, not lifespan. Over 29 years Mattress Miracle has dropped brands that did not get close to their 10-year mark, and the 10-year warranties on our floor are ones we have watched hold up.
